Ghost Pepper, Chili Pepper, Hot Pepper

Capsicum chinense 'Bhut Jolokia'

  • One of the hottest peppers in the world!
  • Slow growing
  • Use utmost caution when handling these peppers

Details

One of the world's hottest peppers, if not the hottest, with readings in excess of 1,000,000 Scoville units! Nicknamed 'Ghost' pepper because the heat sneaks up on you! 'Bhut Jolokia' grows slowly at first, but eventually makes tall plants, exceeding 3 ft in favored locations. The thin-walled, wrinkled, pointed fruits reach 1-2" in length, ripening mostly to red. Matures in 160 days. WARNING!! Due to the excessive and intense heat of the Ghost Chili Pepper, consumption and handling should be approached with extreme caution! Wear double nitrile gloves (a single layer is not enough) on hands and a disposable welding fume respirator over your mouth. Open windows and turn on exhaust fan while cooking. If possible, cook outside so fumes will not choke household members. Do not cook around children, pets, persons with respiratory problems or the elderly. Do not touch your hands to any body part, especially eyes or any other surfaces without removing gloves and washing your hands at least twice with soap and water. Seek medical attention if extreme burning or choking occurs.
