Annuals are the most exciting way to quickly and easily add some vibrant color to your yard and garden throughout the season. There are so many options available, and with new varieties and colors coming out every year, it always feels impossible to narrow down your choices!

Annuals truly let you get creative with your garden design, and their stunning colors are so rewarding to nurture. They tend to grow quickly and bloom profusely, so we can't help but love the instant impact they have in our gardens. Here are three picks we're really excited about for the 2020 growing season!

Midnight Gold Petunia

Black plants and flowers have been getting more and more popular in the last few years, and the 'Midnight Gold' Petunia takes black to a new level with double blooms outlined in pastel primrose-green edges. These massive flowers are sure to make a statement! 'Midnight Gold' is a heat-loving annual that is super easy to grow, with stunning ruffled blooms all season long.

These petunias are popular with butterflies and hummingbirds and offer a striking contrast when paired with light-colored flowers. Because they flower profusely through the season, petunias will benefit from regular fertilizer and deadheading.

More compact than other spreading petunias, 'Midnight Gold' petunias are particularly well suited to hanging baskets and planters, where they set off other colors and textures beautifully.

ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™ Sun Coleus

Coleus is gaining popularity because of its unique foliage colors. New from Proven Winners, 'ColorBlaze® Wicked Witch™' Sun Coleus features large leaves with a deep burgundy, almost chocolate, color accented with green scalloped edges. The habit is unbelievably full and large, about 30" tall and wide. The rich, colorful foliage of coleus adds striking interest when paired with complementary or contrasting colors.

Sun Coleus will grow happily in flower beds, pots, planter boxes, or even in the house. Their magnificent foliage comes in a wide variety of gorgeous colors and textures. The flower spikes are often visited by butterflies but can be pinched back to keep the foliage tidy and compact.

Sun Coleus is surprisingly robust and easy to grow. They only need good drainage and monthly fertilizer to perform their best. Unlike most coleus, Sun Coleus is very versatile, perfect for a sunny or shady location. This versatility gives you the option to add their unique texture to more places around the landscape.

These excellent performers by Proven Winners are beautiful in containers and hanging baskets. The blossoms are gorgeous all on their own with a black center surrounded by a contrasting vibrant violet-rose edge, but when paired with a yellow flower, the yellow eye becomes even more noticeable. 'Superbells Blackcurrant Punch' calibrachoa will bloom profusely from the beginning of spring through the fall and still look beautiful.

Calibrachoas don't perform well when planted in the ground, but since they don't require deadheading, they make a perfect fit for hanging baskets that are hard to reach. They like well-draining soil, so use a good quality potting soil and let the top inch of the soil dry before watering. Calibrachoas will also benefit from regular fertilizer throughout the growing season to keep them looking their best.
