Retail Manager

Position Summary

Basic Function: To oversee and contribute to the day operations of the Garden Center which includes: Sales and customer service, receiving and stocking freight, building and maintaining displays, plant care, supervising staff within company Labor Guidelines and company Policies/Procedures, operating the Point of Sale (POS) system, and daily cash, labor and sales accounting.
This is a SEASONAL ONLY position available late March - June.

Essential Functions

Ensure staff is correctly trained on product knowledge and sales tactics.
Monitor sales and labor data to ensure store goals are being met.
Ensure all product is put away in a timely fashion.
Ensure plant health with proper care and placement.
Ensure displays are built according to plan-o-grams given.
Ensure that the store is kept swept and clean.
Responsible for staff orientation, employment paperwork, and training and scheduling store staff.
Responsible for balancing the shift cash drawers and daily sales receipts.
Responsible for preparing deposits daily.
Provide leadership by setting a good example in appearance, attitude, plant knowledge, work ethics, and customer service.

Job Skills

The ability to be available 7 days a week for the Garden Center season.
Ability to communicate with customers, staff, and management.
Ability to work with a computerized POS system, to include e-mail.
Able to resolve complaints and problems as they arise from customers and employees.
Ability to develop and motive a staff of 6 - 10 employees.
Basic accounting skills.
Basic plant knowledge or the willingness to learn about plants and gardening.
The ability to stand on your feet for 10-hour days, on concrete parking lots.
The ability to lift 20 pounds repeatedly for at least 4 hours.
The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
The ability to stoop and bend repeatedly for several hours.
The ability to work in the outdoors, which could include weather as cold at 25 degrees, as hot as 95 degrees, and long term exposure to the sun.
